How to Make Air Fryer Pizza
For making pizza in an air fryer, you need to prepare the pizza base first. Now, you can go for a store-bought pizza base also but I like to make my own as it’s very easy to make and it takes just 5 minutes to bake the base. So, why not?
Also, this time I have made pizza base using semolina. If you want to use whole wheat flour then you can check my post Whole Wheat Pizza’.
Thus this post has 2 parts, the first is to make the base and the other is to make Pizza.
Make Pizza Base
- For this, we knead the dough by mixing semolina, yeast, cane sugar, salt and oil. You should knead it for 15 to 20 minutes till the dough stops sticking and is smooth and shiny. I kneaded it in my food processor and the dough got ready in less than 5 minutes.
- Thereafter, the dough is left for proofing for an hour or so. As the temperature has started dipping, so I put the dough in my air fryer after preheating it at 180 degrees C for 3 minutes. And, the dough got ready in exactly one hour.
- Then, deflate the dough by kneading it for 30 seconds or so and divide it into 5 or 6 parts.
- Roll each part as big as your air fryer basket.
- Take out the air fryer basket, and simply rub some dry flour on it (yes, it will pass through the holes but that’s okay). This is done so that the base doesn’t stick to the basket. Then put the rolled base on the basket and let it again proof for 10 minutes or so. Once proofed, prick the base nicely with a fork to avoid puffing up while baking.
- Similarly, roll all other bases and either keep them on the parchment paper or just on the kitchen slab only.
- After 10 minutes, preheat the air fryer at 180 degrees C for 3 to 4 minutes and then slide the basket in. You may cover the base with a wire mesh to avoid it getting curled. Air fry it for 5 minutes and your Pizza base is ready.
- Take it out and let it cool on a wire rack so that it doesn’t get soggy from the bottom. Similarly, make all the Pizza base.
Make Pizza
- This is the simplest part which even your children would love to do themselves.
- Preheat the air fryer for 3 to 4 minutes at the highest degree in your air fryer, generally, 200 degrees C. If you are making in continuation with pizza base only then you can skip this point.
- Brush oil on the edges of the pizza base then put pizza sauce, arrange veggies of your choice, cover it with grated cheese, and keep it carefully in the air fryer basket. You can use parchment paper so that lifting it and putting it in the basket becomes easy.
- And now bake it for just 5 to 6 minutes or till cheese melts and it’s ready. Isn’t it quick and easy too!
Tips For The Perfect Outcome
- Do not bake the base at higher than 180 degrees C otherwise, it will curl up due to heavy airflow inside the air fryer.
- Do not bake the Pizza higher than 180 degrees C otherwise, it will not get crispy from the bottom.
- Do not make it too thin otherwise, it will curl up in the air fryer.
- Prick it nicely otherwise, it will puff up like chapati.
- Take care that you roll the pizza base that fits in your air fryer.
- Once rolled, keep the pizza base on parchment paper so that you lift it along with the paper and slide it into the air fryer basket.
- You may use any flour or combination of flour like wheat flour, semolina or any other.
- No need to grease the air fryer basket before laying the pizza base or the pizza.
- Once baked, use a spatula to lift it from the air fryer basket.
- If by chance the pizza remains soft from the bottom and the cheese is melted then cover the pizza with a plate and continue baking for a few more minutes.
- Do not try to bake Pizza by laying sauce and toppings directly on the rolled base. This is possible in oven as I have done in my Whole Wheat Pizza but in the air fryer, you do need a cooked pizza base only.
Benefits of Making Pizza in Air Fryer
- Gets ready quickly, 5 minutes for the base and 5 minutes for the Pizza.
- Pizza turns out a lot more crispier.
Highlights of This Post
- Pizza base is made with 100% semolina.
- Kneaded dough in my food processor and the dough got ready in less than 2 minutes.
- Instead of water, used whey (Water left after making Paneer) for kneading. Whenever I have whey in my refrigerator, I prefer using it otherwise water only. Make sure you warm the whey before using otherwise the yeast will not activate.
- Proofed the dough in the air fryer after preheating it for 3 minutes at 180 degrees C. And even at low temperature nowadays, (around 10 degrees) my dough got ready in exactly one hour.
- Made Mini Pizzas too, that are ideal to be served as snacks.
- Last and the obvious one for this post, made Pizzas in the Air fryer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q) Can I make Pizza directly after rolling the pizza base?
- No. Do not try to bake Pizza by laying sauce and toppings directly on rolled base. This is possible in oven as I have done in my Whole Wheat Pizza but in air fryer, you do need a cooked pizza base only.
- If you do so, it remains uncooked from the bottom.
Q) How to get a crisp base?
- Brush oil on the edges before applying sauce etc.
- Do not bake at a temperature higher than 180 degrees C.
- If by chance the pizza remains soft from the bottom and the cheese is melted then cover the pizza with a lid or steel plate and continue baking for a few more minutes.
Q) Can I keep The Pizza Dough In the Refrigerator Or Freezer?
After the first rise of the dough (that is after step 9 of ‘making dough’ method), you can keep it in refrigerator up to a day or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Whenever you need to make, take out 30 minutes before making so that it softens up. And then proceed as usual. If in the freezer, take out and keep in refrigerator overnight. When becomes soft, take out and proceed.
But, I will repeat that fresh base tastes the best.
Q) New To Bread Baking?
If you are new to bread making or have some inhibitions in using yeast, then my suggestion is that you first go through the basics by reading ALL ABOUT YEAST and BASICS OF BREAD MAKING.
Once you get familiar with yeast then the pizza base is good to start with. You get an idea of the yeast, dough etc and then can move easily to bake loaves of bread. You do not require a loaf tin. No fear of cracks or getting a perfect loaf of bread.

- This much dough gives 6 pizzas each of 6''
- You can use any other flour instead of semolina like whole wheat flour, refined flour, or a combination of flour. In that case, everything will remain the same except the quantity of water.
- If you do not have fine semolina then grind the regular one in your mixer and you will have fine semolina.
- Do not bake at a higher temperature otherwise, it will remain soft from the bottom.
- Pizza base remains good for upto 2 days in the refrigerator.
